Sydney, September 17. Tony Tjamiwa, one of the founding members of the Uluru-Kata
Tjuta National Park Board of Management gives a press conference at the Green
Games. The National Park Board is comprised of six Anangu and four non-Anangu
members and they assist the Minister of the Environment with policy making
decisions about the environment issues that impact the Park.
The Park was handed back to its traditional
Anangu owners from the Australian government in 1985 on the condition that
they lease it back to the Gov't for 99 years so as to be run as a National
Park. Many Anangu people still live in the Park in their community called
Mutittjulu. On the right is Tony’s interpreter, Lena Taylor, a language
specialist at the Institute for Aboriginal Development.

Sydney, September 17. At the tent embassy bj met Murry Hudson and Johnny Chai,
the proprietors of the Timbarra Cafe in Nimbin, Australia. This small
restaurant is the seat of many progressive movements in Australia. Also
pictured (middle) is Professor Pamela Davis of the University of Sydney, who
is accompanying our indefatigable bj around Sydney in search of
interesting stories
